Wetpaint Entertainment: Did you know about the pregnancy in advance?
John Francis Daley: I knew about it before Booth knew about it. But there were some cast members who knew before me, because, you know, women have a bond. Michaela [Conlin] knew about it way before I knew about it — hey, I'm not insulted! When I found out about it, I wasn't so much surprised than I was very happy, because the thought of her being a mother is great.

Wait … are we talking about Brennan or Emily Deschanel?
I was talking about Emily, but Bones as well! You'll probably see a more emotional side to her. Obviously, the hormones that go along with her being pregnant are very prevalent.

With Emily being pregnant in real life, the show had to cut its season short. How has everyone reacted to that?
We all are very supportive of Emily, there's really nothing negative to take out of it. I think it will help progress the story. Because we're doing less episodes this season, I have a feeling that a lot more is going to happen a lot quicker.

Will it have more of the fast-paced feel of cable shows, which have shorter seasons?
At the end of the day, it is still a procedural, so there's only so much of that you can do with that sort of template. But I think that more crazy things are going to happen in a shorter amount of time.

So, how does this new development affect Sweets?
Sweets does some stuff that he has never done before. He is more involved with Booth's investigating. He's more Booth's right-hand man, because Brennan is less available to go on the scene and go into dangerous situations since  she is with child. The great thing about the show is that with each episode, the characters constantly evolve and you're going to see that with all of them.

What else can you tell us about the upcoming season?
I'm only three episodes in so I don't really know, so I can only assume. Just based on what I've read and what we've shot already, a LOT is happening.

Any little tidbit about the third episode?
Sweets is more action-oriented! I'm very happy about that, it's a fun change of pace.

[Bones executive producer Carla Kettner stops by to chat]

Daley: Go to her for spoilers, she knows what can be revealed!

Carla Kettner: Were you there when the golf cart came crashing through? This is very funny. So we're shooting today a scene from episode 2 outside on the lot — and suddenly a golf cart from another show comes crashing through the set!

Daley: Drunk driver or what?!

Kettner: I don't want to point any fingers ... Cables fall down on the gas pedal, everything go boom! Nobody was hurt though!

Daley: That's like the time you had the fire. I thought the entire set burned down but apparently it was one LITTLE fire.

Kettner: We like to make things more exciting!
